after you say " I Do": how to remember your wedding forever

There is one simple step that you should take IMMEDIATELY after your wedding photos arrive in your inbox….

My dad turned 50 this year! So this summer,I got to spend a few hours at my grandma’s house going through boxes of photos and old photo albums. It was so special and so FUN! I have always loved seeing my parents wedding photos, and I cherish every single one that they have.

There is something so important about having tangible memories in the form of prints.

LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER? LET’S GET IN TOUCH!

SO.

PRINT YOUR PHOTOS.

The second you get those photos back from your big day, PRINT. THEM. ALL. Just upload the ENTIRE album to Costco photo (or even better— a professional print lab like Artifact uprising) and send it.  (I am generally a huge advocate for printing professionally with high quality print shops, and I stand by that opinion for your framed prints, wedding announcements, and these too if it’s an option for you, but if a pro print lab for your entire wedding gallery is not in the budget or too inconvenient— don’t let that stop you or make you postpone getting prints. Send those babies to Costco and call it a day).

DO NOT tell yourself you’re going to make a beautiful photo book and put off printing until you have time to organize and order that book. You can still make a beautiful, artful album  whenever you find the time but get all your photos in 4x6’s first.

PRO TIP: After you make your photo center order, head to amazon or your local craft store and order a keepsake box or a photo album you can slide your prints into (like your grandma has). If you don’t want to spend money on a box, an old shoebox works great.

So many brides print off a few favs for their walls and maybe a Christmas Card, and then leave the rest to be digital forever. Don’t let you photos sit on a computer in a digital jail for years and years. There are so many fun and beautiful moments, and photos of loved ones who you may not get to see very often that will be captured by your photographer. Even though those candid shots may not be what you want to frame on your wall, they still contain things and people that are close to your heart and you will cherish each and every capture. You will love going through them right now, and your future kids/grandkids/etc. will love going through them years down the road.

ANOTHER REASON TO PRINT YOUR PHOTOS…

Not only will printing them off let you hold your memories in your hands, it will also protect you from technological malfunctions.

You will be so glad to have “old fashioned” prints if your computer crashes, or if you drop your jump drive in the road and then back over it (Yes. That happened to one of my brides).

Even beyond malfunctioning, technology advances so quickly who’s to say that won’t inhibit your use of digital files down the road?! Think of how hard it will be to watch a VHS tape in 50 years— what if technological development leaves our currently used file types in the dust?!

PRO TIP: When your photos arrive digitally you will probably look through all of them. When you get your prints back, sit down with your new husband, or even with the whole crew (your parents etc) and look through all of the photos. You’ll have so much fun passing prints around and reminiscing on your wedding day together.
